Who Does The Government Really Represent?

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the United States gov’t has stopped representing the people long time ago partly because of corporate campaign donations and corporate lobbying. It now represents the super wealthy corporations with the major banks at the pinnacle of this corrupted and broken system. Democracy does not exist when the government that is supposed to represent the people is actually doing the opposite of what the majority want. Democracy does not exist when people cannot vote on important matters such as declaring war on another nation, investing in clean and sustainable energy, maintaining health and insurance programs that are in our best interest, and the list goes on.

It is the same gov’t that is responsible for stirring up wars made publicly and also covertly like the Bay of Pigs Invasion where our own gov’t plotted to attack its own nation in Operation Northwoods [1] and distributed cocaine to its own people in order to fund rebel groups in foreign nations [2]. It’s the same gov’t that conducted mind control experiments on it’s own people without their knowledge in Project MKULTRA [3] and sadly evidence suggests that it is still going on today. It is the same gov't that injected syphilis into Alabama residents in the Tuskegee syphilis experiment [4]. The examples can go on and it would be smart to bet that there are many more cases which have not yet been made public.

It’s not just the gov’t. The gov’t is made up of humans and humans run mega corporations as well. There are companies such as BP the oil company, Pacific Gas and Electric Company that Erin Brockovich found to have knowingly harmed and killed Americans, the tobacco companies, and all the companies that produce food with high-fructose corn syrup with knowledge of its adverse health effects.

Sure our gov’t has done many great things and provides many benefits, but that does not excuse deceit, fraud, murder, and torture. We would not have any moral integrity if we allow these atrocities to continue. The fact is we can no longer trust our own government to have our best interest in mind. The fact is this capitalist system is currently falling apart and shows how it is not sustainable for our future.

Here are only a few SUPERB documentaries that gives us an insight into how damaging a profit driven society can be:

The good news is we can slowly evolve to a more advanced and evolutionary society that is much more beneficial for humankind – a resource-based economy or RBE. We live in a culture that is perpetuated by big corps to consume and possess massive junk because otherwise they will lose out on a lot of money. That is the reason for the unmoral act of planned obsolescence [5] and why many of our services and products have a set lifetime and purposely break down. In a RBE, there is a paradigm shift from possession to possession-less and assets are shared. The average power drill is used for less than 25 minutes in its lifetime. Just imagine the vast amount of space we can save if we made it easy to share and how we can solve our current garbage disposal crisis. We can have a library of not only books, but other assets as well. We can also have shared gardens and be able to enjoy fresh food instead of the unhealthy and cancerous mass produced food [6], which is something we can honestly start now with our friends and neighbors.

You cannot have infinite growth with finite resources, so a RBE would first calculate the amount of resources and how many people it can accommodate before proceeding which is the logical first step of starting a society. This way a RBE does not run into overpopulation [7] and its related problems.

Imagine no more divorces and related fights and arguments, which stem from the paradigm of possession and the possession of each other. We can slowly eliminate exclusive relationships and marriages, and be able to have multiple loving relationships. There would be no family units and children would be able to maximize their intelligence by learning from and receiving love from the community instead of just two parents.

Do not confuse RBE with communism or socialism because it is neither since it does not have one ruler and it does not have a monetary system which is one of the roots to evil and the many problems we face today. The truth is there is no perfect society and a RBE is no exception. We can either waste time focusing on the many reasons why a RBE may not work or we can focus on making it work because every problem has a solution or a work around. The truth is - there has to be something better than the murdering and profit driven society that we have today. It might just be an evolutionary RBE and we won't know until we move forward and try.

The idea of a resource based economy was started by Jacque Fresco and TheVenusProject.com. Fortunately, we don't have to wait for a true RBE to come along to shield ourselves from some of the evils we face and we can start mini RBEs on our own. So what are you waiting for? The best part is you don’t need to start from scratch and there are self-sustaining communities spread across all over the U.S. as shown here http://directory.ic.org/maps and there are others across the globe. This one that I am particularly interested in has been 15 years in the making – http://www.onecommunityranch.com.

In any situation, it is always easy to point and blame others for our problems, but if we do nothing about it then we only have ourselves to blame. We pay taxes and we consume from mega corps, so we are in fact also responsible for these problems. Another solution in resolving our problems is to educate everyone the importance of ethics and how ethical behavior is a better route to sustainable living and happiness. We can do this by advocating for ethics classes in our educational systems.

We only need to spend a fraction of our time to help make positive changes. While we are slowly migrating towards a new society (because the current one is crumbling), you can also help humankind and yourself by visiting DemandProgress.org.
